Press Release on “Technology Development Contributing to the Improvement of Accuracy and Work Efficiency in Airborne Laser Bathymetry

Announcement of Press Release on “Technology Development Contributing to the Improvement of Accuracy and Work Efficiency in Airborne Laser Bathymetry” by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism

We are pleased to inform you that on September 19, a press release was issued regarding the technology development aimed at improving the accuracy and work efficiency of airborne laser bathymetry, led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism through open innovation.

This development was also featured in the Ken-Tsu Shimbun (front page) on September 24. Our company has formed a team with Asia Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. and Unitech Co., Ltd., and we will continue to advance the development and verification of this technology.

Aiming to Improve Surveying Productivity through Open Innovation – Formation of a Technology Development Team for Airborne Laser Bathymetry

The Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) has initiated an open innovation approach to improve the accuracy and work efficiency of airborne laser bathymetry. They invited companies and organizations to participate in the development, and a development team has now been formed. The team will begin the technical development process.

Following the announcement on July 23 regarding the invitation for companies to participate in the “Technology Development to Improve Accuracy and Work Efficiency in Airborne Laser Bathymetry,” a matching event was held on August 21, where six applicants came together. As a result of the event, two teams were formed to develop software for “Efficient Filtering Work.” These teams will now proceed with the software development.

This technology development is expected to allow for quicker and more cost-effective estimation of sediment volumes in dam reservoirs and sediment accumulation in riverbeds, among other benefits. The software developed by the teams will be evaluated through a demonstration experiment to be conducted by GSI.

Details of the Development Teams:

  • Software for Efficient Filtering Work (Two Teams)
    • Aisan Technology Co., Ltd. / Asia Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. / Unitech Co., Ltd.
    • Asia Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. / Orbital Net Co., Ltd. / Unitech Co., Ltd.

Future Schedule:

  • Development: By December (each development team will execute this separately)
  • Field Verification and Evaluation: December to February
  • Final Report: March

Note on “Matching Event”:
The participating companies presented short pitches on their surveying technologies, followed by discussions and business matchmaking between the companies.
